Minister inaugurates HIV/AIDS control centre

Assures patients will get free treatment at THQ, Kot Momin

LAHORE: The government is committed to provide quality healthcare services in less developed and remote areas, said Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir.

He added that a comprehensive programme to prevent diseases is also being implemented and yielded significant results.

Nazir issued this statement while inaugurating the upgraded and revamped emergency department of Tehsil Headquarter Hospital (THQ) at Kot Momin on Tuesday.

Sargodha Deputy Commissioner Liaquat Chatha, P&SH Technical Department Additional Secretary Dr Asim Altaf, Health CEO Dr Nusrat Riaz, the medical superintendent and other officers of the department were present on the occasion.

Khwaja Imran Nazir also visited the wards and other areas of the hospital. The minister asked about the health of patients and made inquiries related to health facilities, especially provision of free medicines to the patients.

The minister also inaugurated HIV/AIDS Control Centre at the hospital.

The centre was established after a number of HIV/AIDS cases were reported from the area. The health facility will provide diagnosis, registration and treatment facilities to the patients.

Imran Nazir said that the information/data of HIV/AIDS patients would be kept in secret and the Punjab AIDS Control Programme would provide free treatment facilities to them.

The health minister also distributed food hampers to more than 200 HIV/AIDS patients.
