PESHAWAR: A woman has gone to a high court, claiming that she had been abducted, forced into marriage and then subject to abuse.

A Peshawar High Court (PHC) bench, comprising Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan, sent her husband to jail and handed the woman over to her parents on Monday.

The Nowshera native told the court that she was heading to a seminary for studies in her hometown when she was abducted.

She added that she was forced into marriage with ZJ*.

“I was kidnapped and my thumb impressions were taken on the Nikkahnama by force,” she told Justice Qaiser.

“I do not want to marry him, I want justice,” she pleaded.

ZJ, who is already in police custody, had filed a bail plea. The court, however, rejected his application and sent him to jail.

The court subsequently allowed the girl to leave with her parents.

The PHC further directed the police and the girls’ parents to ensure that the girl is protected.
