Educational festivities: AIOU organises festival to promote literary and social activities

Conference to focus on role of literature in reformation of the society

Role of literature as a force of reformation in society will be the focus of a national literary conference opening today (Friday) at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).

The conference is part of a three-day literature festival; its purpose is to promote academic, literary and social activities. A ‘mushaira’ or recitations by the poets has also been arranged on the occasion.

Renowned writers, poets and scholars from across the country are expected to attend the literary conference and mushaira. Meanwhile, students will get an opportunity to display the projects that show their talents, as well as, their community-related projects at the festival.

The festival will be open for students, researchers and others relevant academic groups from within and outside the University to set up their stalls in order to promote community-academia interaction. It will also be an occasion for promoting the Library’s development and management.


During the event, a round-table and panel discussion will also be arranged to highlight the importance of English and Urdu literature, the purpose of the discussion being to gain the interest of the students and researchers.

Various departments of the AIOU including faculties of education, sciences, social sciences and Islamic Studies will brief the visiting students about the new academic programmes at the university.

The carnival is also part of the university’s continuous efforts of promoting research culture in the country as per the vision of the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui.

During the last three and half years, the university published 18 new research journals in different disciplines, besides holding 32 national and international conferences.
