KARACHI:

Much to the disappointment of many moviegoers, the Atrium cinema’s 3D equipment developed a problem on Wednesday and needs help from abroad to be fixed.

“With deep regret we inform everyone that on Wednesday, May 11 (night time) we encountered a technical fault with our D-Cinema projector,” an official statement said. “While efforts were put in by our engineers to resolve the problem we were unable to overcome it without help from abroad. Thus, with immediate effect, all showings of 3D films have been suspended till the projector is repaired.”

Syed Rehmani, the director of operations, elaborated on the technical failure. “One of the electric boards in our 3D facility failed, we are hoping that the replacement arrives soon and if everything goes as planned we will start screening the 3D films from Monday,” he told The Express Tribune on Friday.

The expensive equipment is high maintenance. A few days back the bulb of their 3D projector went out of order but the cinema said it did not stop the screenings.

Thus, May 14 and 15 will be a 2D weekend for Karachi with Hollywood smash hit Rio in 2D.
