Quarterly review: DRCs settled 727 petty disputes

These councils have been formed in light of Quranic verses of Surah Al-Hujaraat

PESHAWAR:
The Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) have successfully settled 727 petty disputes during the 1st quarter of the current year throughout the province and referred 80 cases to other relevant forums for legal action. The Dispute Resolution Council was established in Peshawar in 2014 so as to bring positive change in “thana culture’’ and ensure prompt settlement of petty disputes amongst the general public. These councils have been formed in light of Quranic verses of Surah Al-Hujaraat where Allah Almighty has ordained as “Muslims are brothers, therefore make peace between the two brothers and fear Allah that the mercy may be shown to you”. In last three months a total of 1,436 cases were received in these councils throughout the province in which 727 cases were amicably resolved and 80 were referred to other relevant forms for legal action while 629 cases are under process. In Peshawar, DRCs resolved 67 cases, in Mardan 64, Nowshera 3,Charsadda 2, Swabi 195, Kohat 15, Karak 24, Hangu 38, Lakki Marwat 25, Swat 25,Buner 71, Upper Dir 23, Dir Lower 3, Chitral 2, Shangla 50, Torghar 1, Mansehra14, Bannu 58 and D I Khan 47. In Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Swat 4 each, in Charsadda 3 while in rest of the districts of the province one each DRC is functioning.
