'82 cases registered over misuse of loudspeakers'

Dialogue centre to be established for promotion of interfaith harmony

ISLAMABAD: At least 82 cases have been registered over misuse of loudspeakers and 14 cases against those who were accused of distributing hate content, according to a senior official from the Interior Ministry.

He said this while giving a briefing to the National Commission for Minorities here on Thursday.

Others accused are also said to be making provocative speeches.

The meeting was presided over by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf while attendees included Member of National Assembly Asia Nasir, Bishop of Lahore Irfan Jameel, Professor Mehr Dad Yousaf, Allama Muhammad Asghar Khan Askari, senior officials from Council of Islamic Ideology and ministry of interior.

The meeting agreed to expedite efforts to establish dialogue centre for the promotion of inter-faith harmony. The participants discussed different suggestions for the proposed inter-faith harmony bill.

It also sought proposals for the start of a scholarship programme for non-Muslim children.

The commission was informed that the government was fully implementing the five percent quota reserved for monitories in government jobs.

Moreover, the commission decided to forward the draft marriage and divorce bill for the Parsi community to the Ministry of Law and Justice.
