Rangers' official, passer-by injured by muggers

A Rangers official and passer-by were wounded in a firing incident in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred near Munawar Chowrangi within the limits of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station. According to police officials, at least two armed men on a motorcycle were mugging a citizen near Munawar Chowrangi when the Rangers personnel in plainclothes reached the site on a van. When the muggers saw that personnel in plainclothes were wielding arms, they opened fire on them. As a result, an official of the paramilitary force was injured along with a passer-by. They were shifted to a private hospital nearby.

The perpetrators managed to flee the scene leaving behind their motorcycle.


A contingent of law enforcers reached the site following the incident to collect evidence. SHO Nusrat Shaikh said that the injured Rangers official, Rasheed, along with other personnel, Zaheer Shah and Ashiq, were in plainclothes and were passing from the scene in a van when the armed men fired at them after seeing their weapons.

The motorcycle, which the criminals left at the site, had been snatched from the Sacchal police station's remits, the SHO said.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, Rasheed was critically wounded and was later shifted to Liaquat National Hospital where his treatment was under way. Sindh Inspector-General (IG) of Police Allah Dino Khowaja took notice of the incident and sought a report from the East SSP on the incident. The IG directed the SSP to arrest the suspects involved in the incident.
