
Members of the Upper House of the Parliament on Thursday urged the government to allocate reasonable quota to medical practitioners of different provinces in the federal hospitals.
JUI-F Senator Talha Mehmood sought details of the doctors posted at different hospitals of Islamabad on deputation and merit basis. Responding to this question State Minister for Health Sardar Shahjahan Yousuf informed the House that the government was revisiting the quota policy and that 21 persons are working in Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad on deputation.
Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi asked about the steps taken by the government to curb the sale of substandard and spurious medicines in the country during the last three years .He was informed that the Drug Control Organisation in the Federal health Ministry has been strengthened by employing experts for improvements. Inter provincial coordination and drug testing laboratories have also been strengthened. Crackdown on illegal advertisements for drugs/cure of diseases is carried out regularly to protect the public. Drug courts have been asked to expedite cases.
