LAHORE: Lady Health Workers (LHWs) braved rising temperatures during the third day of their protest outside Mall Road on Wednesday. The sudden climb in temperature caused several of the protesters to faint. Throughout the day, Charring Cross echoed with the sound of ambulance sirens, busy transporting victims to nearby hospitals.

The women were also plagued with other troubles during the past three days.

Despite these hardships the women remain united in their goal. Head of the LHWs Rukhsana Anwar reiterated the sentiment shared by the protesters. We will not call off the protest until our demands are met, she said.

In response to the protest, the health department issued a press release stating that they had met all the genuine demands put forth by the LHWs. The finance department has released their funds and improvements on their service structure are underway, the release stated.

Integrated Reproductive Mother Newborn Child Health Programme Project Director Dr Mukhtar Hussain Syed added that rumors alleging that a female had died during the protest were false.

On Tuesday, approximately 15 LHWs were admitted to hospitals due to dehydration. The protest has also disrupted traffic around Mall Road.
