Indian police arrested two and are on the hunt to locate a third one after a fifth grader was allegedly gang-raped and set on fire on Friday.

The girl faced about 90 per cent injuries and died late on Friday night in Assam’s Nagaon district, NDTV reported.

Earlier, she told police that three boys had put kerosene oil on her and set her on fire after raping her.

The accused will be booked under the Juvenile Justice Act since they are minors.

"We have recorded a dying declaration... Based on that, two of the accused have been caught and will be produced in court today," superintendent of police Shankar Raimedhi said.

He added that a medical test to confirm rape could not be conducted "due to severity of the injuries."

It was only last week in the same district that eight people lured a couple to a secluded place and assaulted the woman. According to the victim, eight men tied her husband to a tree and raped her through the night.
