Australia’s Gold Coast and Sri Lanka’s Hambantota lodged their bid books in the contest to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The two cities vowed to spend billions of dollars to build new accommodation, hotels and infrastructure to ensure successful Games. Neither has previously hosted the Games while both expressed optimism.
