Nine killed, six injured as van plunges into ravine in AJK

'Compensation cheques would be delivered to the bereaved families within a couple of days'

Five women among nine people died and four others were injured in a road accident in district Hattian Bala of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Wednesday.

"A passenger van bearing number ( AJK-9888) van was on the way from Shakanja Khilana to Chakothi and fell in to the deep gorge at Dhakan village killing nine and injuring four on the spot,"  said Deputy Commissioner Hattian Bala Hameed Kiyani while talking to The Express Tribune.

Six, including women, kids, killed in accident

Local people rushed to the spot and a recuse operation along with the district administration was underway.


"All the bodies were handed over to their relatives while injured passengers were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Hattian Bala," DC Kiyani added.

"Three among four injured were in critical condition will be shifted to Muzaffarabad for treatment.”

Three killed in Karachi-Hyderabad highway accident

Those who lost their lives in the accident were identified as Bibi Jan, Haider Jan, Fatima, Saeeda Manzoor , Saeeda Khadim, Khurshid Abbasi, Gulzar Sakindar, Akbar Hussain, Mumtaz Rafiq while Arsalan Shabir, Faiz Razaq, Raja Afteeb whereas Nazeer Fatima received  injuries.

DC Kiyani further went on to say that compensation cheques would be delivered to the bereaved families within a couple of days.
