Madhuri Dixit to replace Sridevi in an upcoming movie, confirms Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi shared a warm photograph of the duo, who were considered professional rivals at one point in their careers

MUMBAI: Madhuri Dixit has been cast in a role which was to be played by Sridevi in Abhishek Varman's new directorial, the late actor's daughter Janhvi Kapoor said on Monday.

"Abhishek Varman's next film was very close to mom's heart... Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuriji for now being a part of this beautiful film," Janhvi posted on her Instagram page.

She also shared a warm photograph featuring Madhuri and Sridevi, who were considered professional rivals at one point in their careers.

Tentatively titled Shiddat, the movie's star-studded cast includes Alia Bhatt, Varun Drawn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur.

According to Hindustan Times, the movie is set to be a period drama set in the 1940s, with partition serving as the backdrop and Manish Malhotra is designing the look for the entire cast.

Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi were originally supposed to play parents to a young couple, rumoured to be Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, in the film. Aditya Roy Kapur was also rumoured to play Varun’s brother in the movie. However, only Sridevi and Sanjay had been officially confirmed.

Sridevi, last seen on-screen in Mom, died on February 24 in Dubai.
