Protective barrier: Blast-proof check post set up
IGP says they will ask the provincial govt for help in recruiting men for these posts
PESHAWAR:
Weeks after a roadside bomb had targeted the vehicle of a senior government official in the city, the police have set up its first blast-proof check post.
Inspector General of Police Salahudin Mehsud on Monday inaugurated the check post in the Aziz Market area, within the remits of the Badhaber police station on the border of Khyber Agency.
The check post, Mehsud said, is one of 31 which will be set up on the outskirts of the city in a half crescent so as to form a protective barrier around Peshawar.
“These 31 check posts are complete and well located as well as well-equipped against all kinds of attacks,” said Mehsud while talking to the media, adding that eight of the check posts have been manned while they were trying to recruit policemen for the remaining posts.
“Around 700 to 800 policemen are required to man these posts and we would approach the provincial government in this regard,” he said, adding that the posts would help solve a lot of law and order problems.
“These check posts were set up while taking into account the terrorism and law and order situation in these areas,” he said.
The IGP later visited several other check posts along the border area of the Khyber Agency in the jurisdiction area of Mattani police station and inspected it.
