Cities face loadshedding for more than 12 hours
Pepco says it has no other option other than loadshedding due to the shortfall of 3000 MW electricity.
The areas of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan remained without electricity for more than 12 hours, while the surrounding towns of these cities faced loadshedding for upto 18 hours.
The Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pvt) Ltd (PEPCO) said that it has no other option but to suspend power supply to fill a gap of 3000 megawatts between supply and demand.
In order to seek an end to power crisis, the Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the federal government and Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman on a petition seeking directions for the federal government to disclose all under-construction projects aimed at ending the power crisis.
Meanwhile, many areas from interior Sindh, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and Balochistan also remained out of power for several hours.
Earlier, the Sindh High Court issued notices to the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) in a petition filed against their failure to restore electricity in different areas in Karachi.
