50-year-old driver of Uber found dead in Karachi's Bufferzone area
KARACHI:
A 50-year-old, who drove for ride-hailing application Uber, was shot dead late Saturday night in Karachi’s Bufferzone area.
Shahnawaz, a retired PIA employee, was killed in the Taimuria Police jurisdiction.
Confirming the incident, police officials said it appeared that the suspect shot the Uber driver from the front seat window as it was the only open window, the rest remained closed with no bullet marks. Three empty shells of .30 bore pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
While the motive of the attack remains unknown, the police speculated that it may have been personal enmity. Further investigations are underway.
In January, Sindh Police claimed to have probed the murder of an Uber driver, who was shot dead by robbers near Hassan Square within the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station in May 2017.
The driver was off duty when armed robbers shot him for offering resistance in a robbery bid. The police traced the culprits with the help of closed-circuit television footage and intelligence-based information.
Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by District East SSP Faisal Abdullah. He said the police had recovered the weapon and a motorcycle used in the incident. The suspects had also confessed to other crimes.
