Corruption has turned province into desert: JI

General secretary says corrupt elements not held accountable matter of great concern

Balochistan Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Hidayatur Rehman Baloch has said that corruption and commission mafias have turned the province into a desert.

“It is a matter of great concern that corrupt elements have not been held accountable even though corruption has been at its peak during the previous governments,” said the general secretary while addressing a presser during his visit to Turbat on Tuesday.



The JI leader said, “Instead of working for the welfare of the people, the elected officials line their pockets. The national treasure cannot be spent on the welfare of the nation unless corrupt elements are held accountable.”

He said corruption in the country had increased to such an extent that it had become more dangerous than cancer.

“Corruption of billions and trillions of rupees every year has ruined the very structure of the country,” he added.



“Like in previous governments, corruption has been rampant during the current government tenure also,” he said. “From top to bottom, corrupt mafia is busy in looting the nation.”

He accused officials of every political party that came to power of committing corruption.

“Corrupt politicians and leaders have taken over our national resources and plunged the country into poverty and darkness,” he said. “The hue and cry of leaders over Panama Leaks is like a terrorist claiming that he is fighting war against terror.”



He demanded of the authorities to bring the persons - whether big or small - involved in corruption in front of the nation.

“Every day corruption of Rs10 to Rs1 billion is taking place,” he added.

The JI leader said, “For the last three decades, corruption is revolving around politicians, civil and military leadership as well as bureaucrats. Until big fish involved in corruption are caught, corruption at lower levels cannot be eradicated.”

The disease of corruption had spread like a lie and the cure lay in accountability without discrimination, he added.
