In a shocking turn of events, after making and breaking of alliances by the political parties, an independent candidate from Balochistan, Sadiq Sanjrani, but backed by both the PPP and PTI has been elected as the Senate chairperson for the next five years. The new candidate may possibly join any of the two parties that backed him, depending on which of the two make a better offer to win the allegiance of the new chairperson.
Had it been the victory of PML-N- backed Raja Zafarul Haq, the ruling party would have gained even a stronger position in both the houses of parliament.
