Traffic at Karakoram Highway suspended
GILGIT:
The Hunza administration suspended the flow of traffic on the Karakoram Highway from Gilgit to Hunza as the difference between the surface of lake and the spillway decreased to 3.8 feet Thursday evening.
Earlier in the day talking exclusively to Express, DC Hunza Nagar had confirmed that water level was 4 feet below the spillway and people from downstream areas had been shifted to other places.
The DC earlier stressed that all arrangements to cope with the situation had been completed.
The villages of Hussaini are in the process of evacuation, as the water level now threatens the village of Pasu.
The Zahra-abad bridge is currently submerged, while surrounding villages fear, that the soft rock of the mountain would crumble from the impact of the water.
Earlier, cameras were installed along Attabad’s landslide lake to monitor developments.
