Combatting on-campus addiction: GCU raises awareness on drug use

An on-campus awareness walk and seminar was held at the Government College University on Monday.
The activities were organised by the varsity in collaboration with the Punjab Higher Education Commission and the Youth Council for Anti-Narcotics (YOFCAN) in order to raise awareness on addiction among adolescents.
GCU VC Dr Hassan Amir Shah led the awareness walk from the university’s clock tower all the way to the main gate. Syed Zulfiqar Hussain, an anti-narcotics consultant, and Lahore Health Authority CEO Dr Yadullah Ali were also present on the occasion.
PHEC and GCU aim for formidable faculties
GCU VC called upon students to worth as youth ambassadors to eradicate this evil from educational institutions across the province. Besides focusing on academics and research, GCU is actively involved in promoting co-curricular and sports activities which keep students away from negative past times, he added.
He stressed that parents and teachers played a major role in saving the youth from drugs. He held the “modern lifestyle” responsible for the rise in drug use among adolescents.
Dr Yadullah Ali said that the Punjab government was actively holding awareness activities in universities and colleges against drug addiction in collaboration with non-government organizations.
