Closed For Maintenance: Kohat Tunnel to be opened today

he tunnel was closed on May 3 due to maintenance work.

After being closed for renovation the Kohat Tunnel, also known as Pak-Japan Friendship Tunnel, is all set to be reopened for traffic today.

The tunnel was closed on May 3 due to maintenance work while commuters were directed to take an alternative route through Kotal Pass.

The tunnel was damaged in twin suicide blasts in January which killed seven and injured nine.


Kohat Tunnel is Pakistan’s longest road tunnel and is on the Indus Highway.

The tunnel cost Rs5 billion and was opened to traffic in June 2003.
