Voting for Sindh Assembly's PS-7 underway
Cut-throat competition is expected between PPP nominee and Functional League's candidate
Voting for constituency PS-7 of the Sindh Assembly is underway in Ghotki.
According to Express News, the polling began for PS-7, the seat of Sardar Ahmed Patafi, which was left vacant after his death. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of Provincial Assembly's (MPA) seat is being contested by a PPP candidate, an independent candidate and one from the Muslim League-Functional candidate.
Cut-throat competition is expected between PPP nominee Abdul Bari Patafi, and Functional's Mian Mohsin.
The constituency has 164 polling stations of which 103 have been declared sensitive. A total of 179,843 votes have been registered. Further, 36 polling stations each are reserved for men and women, while 94 other polling stations are combined. There are 126,076 male voters and 77,026 female voters.
PPP MPA Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi passes away
For security reasons, authorities have deployed more than 3000 personnel belonging to police and rangers.
On January 5, PPP MPA Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi passed away at the age of 76. He had been admitted at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in Karachi for the past few days.
According to sources close to the family, Pitafi will be laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Mirpur Mathelo, Ghotki today (Saturday). Pitafi was very vocal against party policy and always criticised his government’s policy in the Sindh Assembly.
He won the provincial assembly seat from PS-7 Ghotki for the fourth time during the last general elections in 2013. Pitafi, who was chieftain of his tribe, had also served as the PPP’s Ghotki division president. Party leaders lauded his services for the party and offered prayers for him.
