In order to give a boost to revenue, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) President and CEO Musharraf Rasool Cyan has withdrawn his discretionary powers to waive excess baggage authority for all purposes. A spokesperson for the national airline said that the CEO has ordered strict monitoring of excess baggage booking and no relaxation will be granted in any case. Recently, PIA also withdrew substantial discounts of up to 40% meant for senior citizens, students and differently-abled passengers on air fares in a bid to streamline its revenues. The airline has become a burden on Pakistan’s fiscal operations. The year 2004 was the last financial cycle PIA enjoyed a net profit, which amounted to Rs2.3 billion.
