New officers posted against 14 DIG positions

CTD, CIA, East and West districts among police divisions which now have new heads

KARACHI: A major reshuffling in the Sindh police was witnessed on Tuesday as 14 deputy inspector-generals (DIGs) were posted to new positions. Among them were at least five SSPs who were recently promoted to the DIG rank.

A notification issued by the office of Inspector-General (IG) Allah Dino Khowaja announced the transfers and postings of the DIGs. The notification referred to a relevant Sindh High Court judgment which validated such transfers and postings.

According to the notification, Muzaffar Ali Shaikh, a BS-20 officer, who was earlier serving as the establishment DIG at the Central Police Office (CPO), was transferred and posted as the Special Branch DIG with immediate effect.

Similarly, Muhammad Arif Hanif, who was awaiting posting, was appointed against an existing vacancy of the reserve police DIG with immediate effect.

Saqib Ismail Memon, serving as the Criminal Investigation Agency DIG was replaced by Muhammad Amin Yousufzai. Memon, meanwhile, was appointed as the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) DIG, replacing Amir Farooqi.

Farooqi was moved from the CTD to West police. According to the notification, he replaced Zulfiqar Ali Larik as the new West DIG. In the meantime, Larik was posted against the existing vacancy of the East DIG.



A newly-promoted DIG, Ahmed Yar Chohan, was posted with immediate effect as the Shaheed Benazirabad DIG in place of Iqbal Dara, while Dara was posted against the existing vacancy of the Hyderabad traffic DIG.

Another newly-promoted DIG, Naeem Ahmed Shaikh, was posted at the CPO as the headquarters DIG. He replaced Munir Ahmed Shaikh who was directed to report to the CPO. The new headquarters DIG will also additionally hold charge of the finance DIG.

Javed Ali Mahar, who was awaiting posting, was posted with immediate effect as the establishment DIG.

The existing vacancy of the technical and transport DIG was filled by Javed Akbar Riaz, one of the newly-promoted DIGs. He will also additionally serve as the information technology DIG.

Another officer who was awaiting posting, Captain (retired) Asim Khan, was posted against the existing vacancy of the administration DIG.

According to police sources, the transfers and postings of SSPs and SPs would be made in the next phase.
