Boosting Trade: SAARC CCI stresses collaboration
SAARC president stressed the need to strengthen collaboration
ISLAMABAD:
South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Chamber of Commerce and Industry President-elect Ruwan Edirisinghe has stressed the need to strengthen collaboration among Saarc member countries to boost trade and investment in the region and stave off chronic hostilities. Talking to Saarc Chamber Pak chapter Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik by telephone, Edirisinghe said trade within these countries was less than 6%. An investment-friendly environment to promote trade in the region would be ensured if appropriate steps were taken to remove trade barriers and streamline customs procedures, he said, adding intra-regional trade in South Asia could nearly quadruple from the current $28 billion to over $100 billion.
