Water woes: Houses flooded due to canal breach
Authorities failed to contain the breach in Sehar canal even after 12 hours.
KHAIRPUR:
Scores of houses in villages near Khairpur were inundated after authorities failed to contain the breach in Sehar canal even after 12 hours.
The strong water current caused the breach, which occurred late night near Wari village, to become 100 feet wide. Four hundred houses in Usman village, Ramazan village and two others were inundated, while numerous others were washed away. The rise in water levels forced villagers to evacuate the area. The DCO said that the breach occurred due to weak embankments. Separately in Nawabshah, cultivated area came under knee deep water when a 30-foot wide breach occurred in James Canal on Sunday.
