At least three people, including a political worker, were gunned down in separate acts of violence across the city on Sunday.

The body of a 28-year-old man, identified as Rashid Ahmed Ansari, son of Raees Ansari, was found in  Korangi No. 2.5, within the jurisdiction of the Awami Colony police station. Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi, while condemning the incident and demanding arrests, claimed that the victim was with their party. He was a resident of Sector 33-D, Korangi. He was shot at least four times. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy and was later handed over to his family.

SHO Shakir Ali told The Express Tribune that according to the initial investigation, the victim was killed at another location, and his body was then dumped at an abandoned place. He said that a .30 bore pistol was used, and the police also found empty shells from the crime scene. “I do not have any confirmation about the victim’s political affiliation,” the officer said. “It is a speciality that everyone who is killed in Karachi has a political background.” As the family was busy with the burial, the police deferred questioning them. He was laid to rest at the Korangi Chakra Goth graveyard after Asr.

An FIR, No. 204/11, was registered against unidentified assailants on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Rehan.

Separately, one person was killed while another was wounded in another target killing. The incident took place near Valika Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of the SITE police station. The victims were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where 23-year-old Abdul Majeed, son of Mukhtiar Hussain, succumbed to his injuries, while the injured, identified as Asif, 35, was admitted to the hospital, and his condition was said to be stable. Police said that the deceased worked for a private company, and was returning home when unidentified men targeted him. The victim, who hailed from Vihari, was shot once in the chest, and breathed his last at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police suspected that a personal enmity might be behind the incident. However, no case was registered.

Elsewhere, the body of a young man with torture marks was found from Choudhry road in Lyari within the jurisdiction of Baghdadi police station.

Police said that they were informed about the body by residents. They added that the culprits fled after dumping the badly tortured body. The victim was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification, after an autopsy at Civil Hospital, Karachi.
