LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-Azam (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said those weakening and criticising the judiciary are aware that the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) can reject any parliament decision which is contrary to the Constitution.

Expressing his reaction over the apex court’s judgment in the Election Act 2017, which paved the way for former premier Nawaz Sharif to become party head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Shujat said the interpretation of the Constitution falls in the SCP domain. He added this was according to Constitution itself.

He underlined that this was the greatness of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) that he expressed restraint by tolerating foul language being used by a disqualified person. “The ruling party is trying to transcend its limits, but they should remember that a Jati Umra tehsildar cannot be appointed as the CJP on Sharif’s desire.
