Four 'gangsters' among five suspects taken into custody in Karachi

Police recovers snatched mobile phones, weapons from their possession

KARACHI: District City police claimed to have arrested on Monday at least four suspected gangsters allegedly involved in over two dozen cases of street crime. Meanwhile, Gulberg police arrested an alleged ring leader of the 'Tala Tor' group.

The four suspects were arrested by District City police during a raid conducted on a tip-off at Nanak Wara area within the limits of the Risala police station. They were later identified as Behram, Rizwan, Ismail and Aqib Ali. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by District City SP Shahla Qureshi.

According to her, the suspects were involved in at least 25 cases of street crime, adding that the police also recovered snatched mobile phones and weapons from their possession. Cases were registered against the arrested men, while further investigation is under way.

Separately, Gulberg police claimed to have arrested the ring leader of the 'Tala Tor' group during a raid conducted on a tip-off in the Samanabad area. The suspect was identified as Hayatullah. Police officials said that the suspect is of Afghan origin and has, along with his companions, been involved in various cases of looting shops of clothes, cosmetics and jewellery in various parts of the city, including the Samanabad, Liaquatabad and Ranchore Line areas.
