KARACHI: The Pakistan Business Council (PBC) has said that the Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF) 2018-23 must be owned by all ministries and its implementation should be overseen by the prime minister himself.

In a letter to Commerce Secretary Younus Dagha, PBC Chairman Ehsan Malik said that the body is encouraged by the efforts of the Ministry of Commerce to enhance exports to $36-$61 billion by 2023.

“This ambitious target would require a holistic realignment of all government policies, especially the fiscal, trade, energy, labour and agriculture policies,” the letter quoted Malik as saying.  The Ministry of Commerce is currently developing the STPF for the period 2018-2023.

“If Pakistan is to become a powerful exporting country, the STPF must be owned by all ministries and its implementation should be overseen by the prime minister himself,” it stressed.
