Cultural fusion: K-P women show rainbow of versatility

A three-day event promotes social development of women through art and entertainment.

A three-day cultural event highlighting the skills and achievements of women started in Peshawar on Friday, said a press release. Hunar-i-Hawwa (skills of women),  provides a platform for the social and cultural development of the women of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.


The event, a mixture of contemporary and cultural activities, has been organised by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Tourism Corporation exclusively for and by women and will continue till May 8.

Women from all over the province, belonging to different walks of life, will exhibit their innovative works at stalls, ranging from interactive games to refreshments in the programme. Another interesting aspect of the programme is the initiative of women artists to design model village houses on different cultural themes by showcasing wedding ceremonies.


The Tourism Corporation has also arranged musical concerts where popular musicians such as Zaib and Haniya, Rabi Pirzada, Zoya and Ali among others will perform inside Nashtar Hall. Upcoming local singers will also be promoted on the occasion. Mariam Akhtar from Karachi is expected to show her talent at acrobatics and gymnastics.

A fashion show will also be held daily on a specially-designed ramp to showcase the talent of young and upcoming designers as well as models.

The exhibition area will  host a wide variety of competitions in painting, cooking mehndi and bridal makeup which will be judged by accomplished women, who are celebrated nationally for their contributions to their respective fields of work.

The winners will be awarded certificates and shields, courtesy of the Tourism Corporation.

It is a good effort by the  Corporation  to bring women of different occupational backgrounds together and give them an opportunity to interact, socialize and entertain.
