Case registered against MQM-Pakistan leader for rowdy behaviour in Karachi

Probe initiated against Salman Mujahid for threatening girl, claiming to be sexually assaulted by him

KARACHI: The police booked on Tuesday Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan leader Salman Mujahid Baloch for pointing a gun at a social media activist of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his driver in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area in Karachi. Meanwhile, an inquiry was initiated against Baloch for threatening a young girl, who accused Baloch of allegedly sexually assaulting and blackmailing her.
An FIR was registered against the MQM-Pakistan leader by PTI senior leader Imran Ismail at the Gizri police station for pointing a gun at PTI's social media activist Ahsan Alvi in a posh locality of Karachi.

Alvi claimed that he was passing from a narrow street in DHA's Phase II when Baloch came in his black Vigo, along with police guards, from the opposite direction. Alvi added that his driver could not immediately give way to Baloch's vehicle to pass in the narrow street, which infuriated the MQM-Pakistan leader.

"Baloch got furious for not being given way immediately and pointed a gun at me and abused me. Even his guards did the same," the complainant told the police.

Following the incident, PTI leaders, including Ismail, Ali Zaidi and Khurram Sher Zaman approached the Gizri police station where a case against the MQM-Pakistan leader was registered on the directions of Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal.

The home minister ordered to withdraw the security of the MQM-P leader over the incident, saying that no one is above the law and no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands. The home minister ordered Karachi Additional IG Mushtaq Mahar to investigate the incident.



Ismail, however, said that the police was not even ready to register a case against the MQM-Pakistan leader, despite being approached by the senior leadership of PTI.

"The police registered a case after I approached the home minister, who ordered police to register a case," said Ismail. "More than ten police guards who were in two police mobiles also pointed guns at our worker and his driver and abused them. Now all the police guards have been withdrawn on the orders of the home minister," he said.

Replying to a question, Ismail said that Baloch is a liar and the closed-circuit television camera footage of the incident would prove him guilty.

Separately, the Taimuria police of District Central has initiated an inquiry against MQM MNA Baloch for allegedly threatening a young girl, A*. She accused him of threatening and blackmailing her after subjecting her to sexual assault.



"The girl had approached the Central deputy commissioner, who ordered us to inquire about the incident," said Taimuria SHO Nawaz Brohi. "We have accepted her application against Baloch."

In the application, the girl accused Baloch of sexually assaulting her and making her video with the help of hidden cameras at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad.

"He [Baloch] called me in Islamabad on the pretext of giving me a job where he sexually assaulted me and even made a video from a hidden camera," the girl claimed. "Then he started threatening and blackmailing me, while demanding Rs4 million in exchange for the video."



Earlier, in the second week of January, an FIR was registered with the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station under Sections 420 and 506 by MNA Baloch against the same girl, her mother and her brother. Baloch had claimed in the FIR that the girl had borrowed Rs4million from him for medical treatment of her mother, who is a cancer patient, however, the girl and her family started blackmailing and threatening him after he asked her to pay back his money.

Although Baloch was unavailable for comments despite being approached several times, he denied the allegations against him in both the cases while talking to the media. "The girl is a liar and I even have evidence, while the matter is already in court," Baloch told the media, adding that a fake case was registered against him at the Gizri police station, despite him not being present in the area when the incident occurred.
