KARACHI:
Quetta Gladiators coach Moin Khan has said wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed will remain the captain of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) side as long as he is fit and available.

Former Test captain Moin also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to announce Sarfraz as the captain till the 2019 World Cup in order to provide continuity and clarity.

“Sarfraz should be named the team captain at least till the World Cup,” said Moin. “This will not only help Sarfraz but will also improve the morale of the team as a whole. There is no denying Sarfraz’s quality as a leader and he will only improve with time.”

Quetta have been one of the standout performers in the PSL so far, reaching the final of both editions but failing to win either of them. This time around, Moin warns their rivals, Quetta are better equipped to go all the way.

“The team’s combination is much better this year than what it was in the previous two years,” he said. “We are therefore confident of going all the way and will hopefully provide a lot of entertainment to the fans this season. “

The 46-year-old added that Quetta could have won last year’s final as well, had they not been forced to change their overseas players. “Unfortunately, we lost some players for the final and were therefore unable to compete like we could have. The likes of Adil Rashid and Shane Watson are sure to improve us even further. Add to that our current players such as Kevin Pietersen and Rilee Rossouw and I believe we managed to choose the best players from the options that we had.”

The Karachi-born Moin also expressed his excitement at the final being held at the National Stadium of Karachi. “The final is taking place in Karachi this time around and we have a lot of players from the city, so we hope to be there and it will be even more special for a lot of us,” he said.
