Expo to be held in October

Investment conference planned for the first time.

KARACHI:

The sixth Expo Pakistan will be held from October 20 to 23 at the Karachi Expo Centre and it will feature for the first time a multilateral investment conference in an attempt to attract investment in the country, says a trade official.

“Buyers and investors of important economic partners of Pakistan will take part in the conference,” Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Chief Executive Tariq Iqbal Puri said while talking to the media on Thursday.

He said the exhibition, to be held in association with exporters and trade associations, would open up new avenues of investment and would consolidate increasing trade with different countries. Instead of a traditional event, he said, it would offer foreign importers and investors opportunities of business-to-business meetings to highlight the potential of Pakistani products and investment opportunities in the country.

“The foreign delegates will also be taken to manufacturing units so that they can see the production process themselves,” he said.

Puri said focal persons were being appointed for every sector which would participate in the event and they would connect manufacturers and importers. “This time the government is inviting tenders for event services for different sectors instead of appointing an event manager,” he said.

In a bid to design stalls and pavilions according to international standards, the government was also hiring expert designers, he said.

During the exhibition, investment will be particularly sought in sectors such as textile, dairy, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, mining and minerals, engineering and energy.
