Stage performer Sumbul killed while resisting abduction bid in Mardan

Police confirms up to three attackers entered performers' residence in Maltoon Town and shot her to death

MARDAN:
A local stage and drama artiste, Sumbal, was shot dead by three men in her house after she refused to come with them for a performance on Saturday.

The incident took place in the upscale Sheikh Maltoon Town of Mardan. According to the murder report registered with the police, three men, identified as Naeem Khattak, Jehangir Khan and Naseeb Khan, broke into her house and asked her to come with them somewhere for a performance.

Sumbal refused to go with the men. Infuriated, the men and opened fire on Sumbal who was injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital, but she succumbed to her wounds before she would reach there.



The attackers, who included a former police official, escaped after the shooting. The body was handed over to heirs after post-mortem.
