Illegal bus stops: Notices issued to govt transport authorities
PTA and RTA told to explain failure to remove bus stops following 2004 order.
HYDERABAD:
The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the government’s transport authorities, the Hyderabad DPO and the DCO, asking them to explain why illegal bus stops still exist, despite court orders to remove them.
A petition filed by Haji Rafique, the owner of a transport company, was heard by the Hyderabad Circuit Bench, comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar on Tuesday.
The petition stated that the court ordered the removal of bus stops in 2004 but it was ignored, with the involvement of the police.
According to the 2004 order, all bus stops were to be removed from the city, except the Badin and Halanaka stops. However, this did not happen and stops sprung up again in areas, including Latifabad and Qasimabad.
The court has asked for an explanation from officials of the Provincial Transport Authority and the Road Transport Authority, Hyderabad DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri and DPO Pir Farid Jan Sarhindi. The next hearing is scheduled for May 17.
