‘India hiding behind facade of democracy’
AJK president says women play pivotal role in the development of country

As another spell of cross-border firing claims innocent lives, cracks in New Delhi’s façade of democracy and secularism offer a peek at their real face.
This was stated by Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan while addressing the 14th Convocation of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Sunday.
Masood said that New Delhi has ignominiously been committing war crimes in Indian Occupied Kashmir against innocent Kashmiri people.
“The people of Kashmir are being treated as aliens in their own homeland and are murdered, tortured, illegally arrested and maimed by the Indian occupation forces,” he said, adding, “They have been cordoned off from all sides and IoK has seemingly been turned into a prison for the Kashmiri Muslims.”
The Indian army, para-military force and police under the barbaric Public Safety Act and Armed Forces Special Powers Act have been granted absolute immunity from prosecution and are openly killing innocent protestors striving for the realisation of their right to self-determination, said the AJK president.
Masood urged students to express their solidarity with the people of Kashmir by replicating and broadcasting their stories. He said that with the advent of social media, the voice of the Kashmiris must be raised on the global forum.
The people of Kashmir, he said, have aligned their destiny with Pakistan and India should allow them to exercise their right to self-determination. He said that Kashmiris have the same sense of ownership over Pakistan as the people of Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab or Sindh.
“We are incomplete without Kashmir and Kashmir is incomplete without Pakistan. The dark night of suffering for the Kashmiris will end”, he said.
He congratulated the students, their parents and faculty on the successful completion of their academic studies. He highlighted the need to uphold merit and competence. He said that the students must have a sense of destiny both individually and for the nation.
To turn Pakistan into a great nation, Masood said that we must demonstrate professional and academic excellence. He added that students must imbibe certain traits and values by displaying a strong character and a life-long commitment to discipline.
“It is our responsibility and obligation to selflessly serve humanity,” he said.
He further said that women have a pivotal role in the economic and social development of Pakistan. He invited the management of LCWU to explore partnerships and collaborations with AJK Universities, especially the Women University in Bagh in split degree and student exchange programmes.
