The fruit and vegetable market in the capital is allegedly being ruled by a mafia which had even ransacked the offices of the District Market Committees a few days ago and attacked committee members.
Speaking to APP, Islamabad District Market Committee Chairman Rosh Dil Khan said his life was under threat and his workers had stopped coming to their offices for fear of further attacks.
He said that business conditions could not improve in the market unless the law and order situation had improved.
Fruits And Vegetables: ‘Steps being taken to reduce wastage’
He said that in the past few days, the offices of the market committee came under attack from a mob of hundreds, mostly illegal Afghan workers, who were annoyed with the steps being taken to improve conditions at the market.
The market committee chairman claimed that the Sabzi Mandi police station had been working with a skeleton staff and had failed to protect officials of the district market committee as a mob of hundreds pelted his offices with stones and took away valuables.
