Sadiq and Ameen: Plea for Rasheed’s disqualification dismissed
LHC dismissed petition as non-maintainable which sought disqualification of chief of AML Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad

Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a petition, as non-maintainable, which sought the disqualification of chief of Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad. The AML leader backpedaled from a claim to tender his resignation.
Rasheed made a claim at a public gathering on Mall Road to tender his resignation from the National Assembly. Earlier, the judge, expressing his displeasure over filing of baseless and uncalled for petitions, reserved the decision. Justice Karim then had asked the petitioner why he brought such issues to the courts.
Mirza Muhammad Sadiq, a citizen, had moved the petition, contending the court that Sheikh Rasheed was no longer “Sadiq and Ameen”. He stated Rasheed addressing, at a public gathering, had made the tall claim of a resignation, but did not fulfill it. The petitioner said it had been more than a week that he announced his resignation from the national assembly seat.
