In separate incidents, six people gunned down
Four members of a family were killed in an armed clash over a land dispute
PESHAWAR:
As many as six people, including two sisters, were killed in separate incidents of violence in Peshawar on Friday.
In the first incident, two groups clashed in the Achini area within the remits of Sarband police station.
Talking to The Express Tribune, an officer from the Sarband police station said that two groups were at odds over the ownership of a piece of land.
On Friday morning, matters came to a head and they squared off. During the clash, the two groups reportedly traded volleys of bullets.
The firefight left four members of a family dead and the fifth injured.
Officials said that Haji Ayub, Javed, Arsalan and Waqas were killed on the spot while Saifoor had to be rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
“This was one-sided,” the official said, adding, “The rival Aurangzeb-led group had planned it [the clash] well in advance and they opened fire at the group led by Haji Auyb giving them no time to respond [seek cover], as a result, four were killed and one was injured.”
The Sarband police added that members of the group led by Aurangzeb managed to flee despite committing a heinous crime in broad daylight.
“We have registered an FIR in the case and have started investigations,” he added.
Sisters gunned down
At least two women believed to be sisters were gunned down by unidentified armed assailants in the Waliabad area, within the remits of Pishtakhara police station, on the outskirts of Peshawar on Friday.
Police said that the two women, who were sisters, were residents of the Sangu Landy area of Sarband.
The two were shot while walking down the road by unidentified attackers.
“One of the women has been identified as Noreen while the identity of the other has yet to be determined,” said a police official.
“It could be honour killing, but let’s not jump to conclusions prematurely,” the official told The Express Tribune.
Woman’s body found
On Thursday night, the body of a woman was found in the Mathra area of the city. She had been shot and her body had been dumped in a deserted part of the city. The police are investigating the killing.
