A day after Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed the arrest of Zainab's murderer, the Kasur girl's father has criticised how those in attendance 'celebrated' their 'performance' while he continued to weep for his daughter, Express News reported.

At a news conference on Wednesday, the Punjab CM confirmed that Imran Ali, prime suspect in the rape-murder case, has been nabbed and applauded the provincial departments for their efforts to materialise the arrest.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) today handed over the man to police on 14-day physical remand.

"While we're grieving the death of our daughter, those present at the presser clapped," said Muhammad Ameen, Zainab's father.

Ameen questioned if those at the presser clapped at the miscreant's involvement in the incidents of assault for the last more than two years.

Shehbaz Sharif is a showman, not politician: Khursheed Shah

He accused CM Shehbaz of closing both of his mics when he attempted to list his demands.

The victim's father also demanded Ali's relatives of the accused may also be included in the investigation, saying he provided refuge to the accused who confined the girl in his house for five days before murdering her.

Zainab was kidnapped on January 4 from near her aunt’s house in Kasur. Her body was discovered five days later from a garbage heap. The post-mortem report revealed that she had been raped and murdered.

The news of the abduction, rape, and brutal murder of the eight-year-old shook the nation and triggered mass protests in Kasur and other cities across the country.
