LAHORE: A lawmaker of the opposition benches demands a commission to control incidents of child sexual abuse.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) legislator Shunila Ruth made the demand through a resolution submitted in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday.

“There is a need to form a commission to stop such horrible incidents,” she said.

Earlier, the parliamentarians had suggested introducing a topic in the curriculum to create awareness among children so that they protect themselves from sexual abuse. They had also demanded the public hanging of the suspects involved in abduction, rape and killing of Zainab in Kasur.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) legislator Nighat Shaikh, in her resolution, had demanded a topic be included in the curriculum to create awareness among children. She had also demanded that the perpetrators should be hanged publically.

PTI legislator Malik Taimoor Masood had demanded the government direct management of all private and government schools to take measures to provide protection to children.

He suggested the management of all schools be directed to conduct parades in schools in which the children should be educated about how to protect themselves from unknown persons.

“The children should be told not to eat anything offered by anyone. Take busy routes while coming and going to school. Don’t listen to those they don’t know. They should also start shouting if someone tries to hold them forcefully,” she said. She added that parents should also be advised not to send their children to schools alone.
