Iraq condemns German woman to death for belonging to IS

She was hanged for providing logistical support to IS and helping it to carry out crimes

BAGHDAD: An Iraqi court said Sunday it had condemned to death by hanging a German woman of Moroccan origin after finding her guilty of belonging to the Islamic State group.

She was sentenced for providing "logistical support and helping the terrorist group to carry out crimes," said Abdel Settar Bayraqdar, a spokesperson for the court.

In September 2017, an Iraqi court sentenced to death by hanging a Russian man after finding him guilty of fighting for Islamic State.

In July 2017, four German women, including a 16-year-old girl were held in an Iraqi prison for joining Islamic State, Reuters reported.
