Says government has kept parliament and media on board at every stage of CPEC's development

GWADAR: While talking about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal stated that the project has increased Pakistan's geostrategic importance making it arterial to Asia, South Asia and Central Asia.

"The government has kept parliament and media on board at every stage of CPEC's development because it believes in transparency," he said in conversation with media personnel in Gwadar.

He remarked that CPEC is the product of the long-term goals envisioned by Pakistan and China. The One Belt One Road (OBOR) project and  Pakistan's Vision 2025 are equivocal and both projects are geared towards promoting inter and intra-regional connectivity.

Earlier, on a visit to the coastal power hub, Ahsan instructed all concerned departments to resolve Gwadar’s war and power supply issues.

He stated that people of Gwadar are the priority in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Currently, CPEC projects of Necessary Facilities of Fresh Water Treatment, Water Supply and Distribution cost US $130, and 300 MW Coal based Power Project cost US $600 are being implemented in Gwadar.

These projects are being formulated to meet demands of power and water of the local community and the modern expanding port city of Gwadar. While presiding a high-level meeting on Gwadar projects, he directed that the plan for Gwadar city should ensure provision of an integrated railroad and transport system. The Gwadar Master City Plan must cover present and future maritime trends and assessment of other regional ports.
