PESHAWAR:
Days after lawmakers raised the issue of a minor girl being raped, killed and dumped in Mardan, two separate adjournment motions were filed in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly have submitted two separate adjournment motions in the assembly’s secretariat on Wednesday.

The adjournment motions were submitted by Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader and former provincial minister for Mines and Minerals Development Ziaullah Afridi and Sardar Aurangzeb Nalota of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The two motions condemned the role of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Police for failing to register an FIR in the case apart from allegedly trying to cover it up.

Nalota, in his adjournment motion, gave the provincial government three days to arrest the perpetrators involved in the rape and murder of the four-year-old girl.

The PML-N leader further warned the provincial government of protests should they fail to apprehend the culprits.

“The ‘ideal police’ of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has been shying away from registering an FIR in the case,” Nalota said, pointing out that police was still reluctant despite confirmation from Mardan District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar and reports in local newspapers.

“I request the house that the culprits should immediately be arrested and given exemplary punishment,” he added in the motion.

Meanwhile, Afridi stated that the Kasur and Mardan incidents were essentially the same.

“The PTI and its chairman Imran Khan are politicking on Zainab’s case in Kasur while the party has yet to arrest the culprits involved in the rape and murder of a minor girl in the province,” he stated.
