Pakistan embassy in Bangkok accused of issuing passports to foreign nationals
Former employee claims he was harassed and repatriated to Pakistan when he attempted to unearth the malpractice
ISLAMABAD:
A former employee of Pakistan embassy in Bangkok has accused the staff of being involved in issuing passports to foreign nationals and resorting to harassment.
Ayazuddin, who worked as a network engineer at the embassy responsible for issuing machine readable passports, said that he was harassed and forcefully repatriated to Pakistan on fake charges after he attempted to cease the illegal practice.
Ayazuddin unearthed the malpractice by writing to the Director General Passports in a letter, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune.
In the letter, the employee demanded an investigation into the alleged practices through the Foreign Office.

According to him, in one instance, a Pakistani passport was issued to a Burmese national, who was later arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) upon his arrival at the Karachi airport.
“Besides this, passports were also issued to some other non-entities who were not Pakistanis,” Ayazuddin stated in his letter.
He went on to say that the embassy staff, under the patronage of a junior counsellor and a diplomat, harassed him when he attempted to restrain them from their involvement in the malpractice.
Ayazuddin also stated that he was repatriated on a bogus complaint of harassment. The complainant woman, he maintained, later came to the embassy and withdrew her application, besides an apology.
The former employee also conveyed the concerns of the Pakistani community in Thailand, who, he said, had expressed serious concerns on the working behaviour of the staff led by the counsellor.
