PPP all-in for PAT protest, says Kaira
PPP would fully participate in the July 17 protest as had been decided in the APC meeting, PPP leader tells reporters
LAHORE:
The protest calling for justice for the victims of the Model Town killings will be peaceful but his party knows how to handle the situation if force was used, PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Sunday.
A meeting of the steering committee will devise its future course of action on Monday (today).
PPP would fully participate in the July 17 protest as had been decided in the APC meeting, he told reporters.
PPP, he said, was not participating in the protest to pursue any political agenda. PPP strictly followed the law and constitution but the rulers did not pay any heed without forceful action.
He said that his party called for punishing everyone involved in the Model Town incident in accordance with Justice Baqar Najafi’s report.

“We will compel Punjab’s rulers to quit power.”
He said that the protest was not a step towards any political alliance. It had a one-point agenda – to provide justice to the victims of the Model Town tragedy. PPP, he said, had always sought to strengthen democracy, adding that the PPP could not be coerced.
When asked if Imran Khan and Asif Ali Zardari would be in one container, he said that there would not be separate containers and there would be a single stage.
Kaira said that Zardari would also take part in the PAT’s protest on January 17 and he intended to fully support Tahirul Qadri in this regard.
He said that the Kasur tragedy was not the first of its kind and several cases of child abuse had occurred there. He said if the police had simply sealed off the area on the day the girl was abducted, her life could have been saved.
He said that Imran Khan was dreaming of becoming prime minister with the help of magicians.
Answering another question, he said Nawaz Sharif was doing whatever he could to antagonise national institutions.

Kaira insisted that the protest would be peaceful and PPP had always protested to strengthen democracy.
According to him, all parties which participated in the APC would take part in the protest on January 17.
He said Shehbaz Sharif’s mode of governance was to shoot anyone who protested, adding that protests would continue until the ouster of the Punjab government.
