Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced on Friday he would contest general elections from the National Assembly's constituency 213 (Nawabshah).

"The PPP will form the government after winning the 2018 general elections with utmost majority and serve the masses," he told working committee of the party after inaugurating PPP's district secretariat in Nawabshah.

"We will personally monitor the ongoing development projects in Sindh and complete the ones abandoned earlier," Zardari said, adding, "We will prove that Sindh is ahead [of all provinces] as far as development is concerned."

On Thursday, the PPP top leader expressed his desire for the assemblies to continue functioning until the forthcoming Senate elections. He, however, said that early elections were no longer an improbability.

Early elections possible, says Zardari

Zardari also said they won't become part of any unconstitutional or non-democratic move, saying the Constitution "does not define a technocrat government".

He also said that deposed premier Nawaz Sharif’s 'B-team' was incapable of running the government.

On relations with the US in the wake of President Donald Trump's recent statement accusing Pakistan of "lying and deceit" despite receiving billions of dollars in aid, the veteran politician termed it a "stupidity not to improve relations with the US".

Zardari had also confirmed that his party will continue offering support to Dr Tahirul Qadri-led Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) who has announced countrywide anti-government drive, seeking resignations of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.
