Foreign ministry to submit report on Dr Aafia in 3 days
ISLAMABAD:
Senate's Standing Committee on Interior directed the foreign ministry to obtain information from the US embassy and submit a report on Dr Aafia's recovery in three days.
The committee chaired by Senator Talha Mehmood also directed the Foreign Ministry to summon US ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson in this connection.
The committee also said Pakistan's ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani can also be summoned within a few hours if no progress is made in the case.
Foreign ministry officials told the committee that Dr Aafia did not let her counsel plead the case and presented the arguments herself which have complicated the case.
They added that the contradictions found in her statements have strengthened the evidence against her.
