Minister rules out delay in Senate, general elections
Marriyum Aurangzeb says efforts to dissolve Balochistan Assembly part of conspiracy
ISLAMABAD:
Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurganzeb has dismissed speculation that upcoming Senate as well as parliamentary elections might be postponed due to the ongoing political convulsion in Balochistan.
"Despite all such rumours, Senate and general elections will be held on time,” said the information minister while talking to media-persons on Tuesday.
In order to thwart the immediate political impasse, Sanaullah Zehri stepped down as the chief minister of Balochistan on Tuesday just hours before the provincial assembly was to take up a no-confidence motion against the embattled PML-N leader.

Many in the ruling camp suspect that the Balochistan crisis was a well thought out conspiracy to destabilise political dispensation in the country.
Marriyum said that efforts to dissolve the Balochistan Assembly were a part of that conspiracy.
“Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri is a pawn in the hands of those who are conspiring against the political system.”
The godfather was asked to come to the country from Canada to try and remove the government, said Marriyum, adding that everyone knew on whose instructions Qadri was “staging this drama”.
The PAT chief had announced on Monday a countrywide protest on January 17 to oust the PML-N governments, both in the Punjab and the Centre.
Qadri had been seeking the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah over their alleged involvement in the Modal Town incident. After last month's all parties conference, Qadri gave until January 7 to Shehbaz and Sanaullah to resign.

However, the PML-N rejected the resignation demand prompting PAT chief to call a countrywide protest, not only to seek resignations of the Punjab chief minister and law minister, but to also oust the PML-N government.
Strongly defending the performance of PML-N governments both in the Punjab and the Centre, the information minister insisted that the party had delivered on its promises as economic development was there for everyone to see during the last four years.
